I've had 3 riding injuries over my riding career so far - walking case, concussion, and non weight bearing cast for 4 months + therapy (broken foot) - each time God has allowed me to heal and allow me to keep riding - so it's all good!
Coming late to this, but hope more input helps!

Yes, I do workout for my riding -- somewhat hit or miss at the gym (elliptical, free weights) and religiously Pilates once a week.
I have scoliosis (curvature of the spine), and I have had, in the past, real lower back pain when I ride.
I have not seen a doctor for it, but have been doing Pilates for 5 or 6 years now, and it has made an amazing difference in my core strength, the comfort of my back, and my ability to bounce back from aches and pains from riding...

anything else you want me to know: evidentlly, my back pain that is associated with my riding, was not the cause to go to the doctor. I went to see a chiropractor (because my doctor was no help) and he said that my back was that of a 70 year old woman! I do however get some pains here and there, but after seeing the chiropractor, and gettting adjustments on an annual basis to correct (not sure if thats the right word) the problem in my back (long story) stopped. I no longer have to go to the chirpractor, in fact I haven't been back for a while now, and I ride so much more comfortably!
